HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER

Sefalana Cash & Carry, a leading distributor of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) in Botswana, has an opportunity for a Health and Safety Officer. The position is available at Sefalana Hyperstore Gaborone in Gaborone.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. A diploma in occupational health and safety, environmental studies, or related fields or an equivalent professional certification from recognized bodies.
2. At least two (2) years’ work experience in roles dealing with developing and enforcing health and safety precautions.
3. Proficient in developing and enforcing health and safety best practices in the workplace.
4. Good communication skills necessary for coordinating activities with varied stakeholders.
5. Good presentation skills necessary to lead health and safety awareness talks/presentations.
6. Be able to conduct routine health and safety inspections and propose practical solutions.
7. Passionate about health and safety issues and ready to coordinate activities in a large entity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position holder will:

1. Develop and implement health and safety plans and activities to minimize health hazards.
2. Conduct health and safety awareness discussions during staff meetings as per scheduled.
3. Conduct routine health and safety inspections to check compliance to company procedures/best practices; and identify health hazards.
4. Advise store management from time to time on possible solutions to identified exceptions.
5. Monitor employees’ compliance to the set COVID-19 regulations and archive the records.
6. Maintain records of breaches of health and safety protocols and compile summary reports.
7. Conduct investigations on breaches to safety precautions and any accidents that occurred.
8. Identify employees’ training needs in relation to health and safety concerns and liaise with store management.
9. Supervise health and safety representatives to ensure the team’s effectiveness on the job.
