Purpose of the Role

To provide ambulance transportation services

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives
  • Cleans vehicles and ambulance medical equipment
  • Collects, transports and weighs clinical waste for incineration from storage areas
  • Conducts vehicle pre-start checks for roadworthiness, completes the vehicle logbook and reports any defects to the relevant personnel
  • Display appropriate traffic signs and demarcating the incident area to ensure safety
  • Handling of challenging patients such as psychiatric patients
  • Loading and offloading patients on stretchers, wheelchairs and ambulance, ensuring patient safety
  • Maintains relevant documents ,records and register e.g. logs
  • Operates emergency equipment e.g. vacuum mattress, stretchers and wheelchair
  • Provides a messenger service by collecting and delivering mail, patient records, distilled water and medical supplies to relevant destination
  • Removes and replaces soiled linen from ambulance to maintain sanitary condition
  • Transports corpses for post mortem and specimens
  • Transports patients, staff and/or authorised personnel to destinations locally and regionally

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Takes cognizance of and adheres to policies and procedures relating to inter-alia safety, health and environmental issues.

Education

  • O Level
  • Certificate in Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA)

Experience

2 years experience in a similar role
