Chief Executive Officer – Botswana Short-Term Insurance Underwriters Association (BSTIUA)

Botswana Short-Term Insurance Underwriters Association (BSTIUA), invites applications for suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of:

Chief Executive Officer

Reporting to the Board of BSTIUA, the CEO as the Head of Secretariat will be responsible for providing the leadership required to ensure the smooth running and effective function of the Association.

Job Responsibilities

• To make representations on behalf of the short-term insurance industry to the Government, Regulatory bodies, similar associations, and other industries.
• To promote the integrity of and uphold the regulations governing the Insurance sector.
• To ensure the promotion of best practice and the highest standards of professionalism in the short-term (general) insurance market.
• To interact with and manage key stakeholders, including (but not limited to) Board, Insurance Regulator, Auditors, and Industry Bodies.
• To bring financial accountability to the Association and help cultivate an excellent rapport with many constituents that are stakeholders in the general insurance market, regionally and internationally.
• To capacitate the Association to complement and or supplement the functions of the Regulator by acting as a self-regulatory body.
• To place the integrity of the short-term insurance industry and interest of its clients above any other interest.
• To ensure that the BSTIUA constitution and rules are adhered to.
• To provide technical and legal support to the Association.
• To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected.

Core Competencies

• Knowledge of Botswana’s regulatory environment in order to embrace all regulations including NBFIRA, FIA e.t.c
• Risk Management expertise Strong interpersonal and relationship skills. Business and commercial acumen.
• Good negotiation skills.
• Ability to embrace a consultative process.
• Effective and confident communicator.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of the Insurance Act, as it relates to General insurance.

Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate should have the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree in law/Risk Management Expert
• The Applicant must be an admitted Legal Practitioner by the High Court of Botswana.
• At least 8 years experience in a legal environment.
• An Insurance Qualification is an added advantage.
