GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTANT
Overview
To ensure that the General Ledger is managed and maintained in line with reporting standards. Ensure accurate account allocations are per company policy and within G4S guidelines. Develops and maintains systems that support vendor management, cashbook management and departmental cost analysis. Also pertinent to the role is provision of tax computations and declarations in line with regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
Key Performance Areas
a) Accounting and Management Reports
- Carries out group reporting through business planning and consolidation platform (BPC).
- Prepares monthly internal reports (Internal Trade Reviews).
- Prepares management reports at the request of management.
- Reviews and approves the general ledger journals.
- Manages the monthly accounts payables closing process.
- Reviews and authorizes monthly general ledger reconciliations.
- Liaises with external auditors and regional office auditors.
- Completes and submits regional reports on request.
- Participates in the preparation of cash flow and working capital forecast.
- Manages internal controls relating to the finance function.
b) Accounts Payable & Cashbook
- Reviews and approves supplier and bank reconciliations.
- Reviews supplier payments.
- Authorizes supplier and other third party payments.
- Maintains relationship with key suppliers.
- Manages and owns day’s payables outstanding and alignment today’s receivables outstanding.
- Manages supplier payment terms.
c) Withholding Tax Compliance
- Manages the relationship with BURS.
- Ensures compliance with tax laws, and;
- Owns VAT computation and authorization.
Requirements
- Accounting qualification (Business Degree/AAT and part qualification in either ACCA/CIMA).
- Strong IFRS and relevant tax legislation knowledge.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a management accounts role.
- Pastel/SAP knowledge.
- Good leadership and management skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good financial/ business acumen
