Purpose of the Role

To contribute to the development and implementation of the Company’s Claims strategy and effect claims settlements and/or final determinations in line with established processes

Key Job Responsibilities

• Assists the claims personnel with coverage determination, liability analysis and settlement negotiation
• Assists with query resolution in a timely manner for both Corporate and EGS claims before escalation
• Contributes to the development and implementation of the Company’s Claims strategy in line with set parameters to achieve business objectives
• Coordinates office and operational activities to ensure efficiency and compliance to company policies and standards
• Ensures adequate and/or accurate reserves on claims
• Ensures compliance with the claims processes and procedures
• Ensures that claim investigations are conducted where necessary and that the Company compensates for what they are liable for and recover what is due (salvages, third party and reinsurance recoveries)
• Ensuring that the claims end to end process is completed efficiently and effectively
• Leads collaborative cross-functional meetings to gather business requirements and maintains key business relationships
• Maintains and updates the rejections and ex-gratia registers
• Negotiates settlements and ensures that the settlement reflects the actual claimants’ losses and that the Company is protected from invalid claims
• Processes Corporate claims and updates the Corporate claims registers
• Provides monthly claim reserve listings for both Corporate and EGS claims
• Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budget and operates within approved parameters
• Responsible for liaising with the respective Risk Officers from across the sites (relationship management)
• Reviews claim files for accuracy and completeness and is the first line of approval for claim payments before passing them to the Claims Manager
• Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements
• Collaborates with relevant stakeholders in establishing Functional Area specific policies and procedures and makes informed decisions and recommendations regarding existing policies
• Manages subordinates key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary

Other Job Responsibilities

• Adheres to all safety health and environmental policies and procedures in areas of responsibility

Education

• Bachelors Degree in Any field

Experience

3 years post-graduate experience in the short term insurance industry or in an insurance regulatory environment – at least one year should have been at supervisory level

Legal Certification/Professional Registration

• Associate member of AIISA/ ACII or equivalent
