DESCRIPTION
Botswana Accountancy Oversight Authority invites dynamic, self-motivated, and qualified individuals to apply for the position below. Preference will be given to Botswana citizens.
ABOUT BAOA (MANDATE)
The principal objective of the Authority is to provide oversight to the accounting and auditing profession and promote the standard, quality, and credibility of providing financial and non-financial information provided by Public Interest Entities. Its functions include standard setting, financial reporting monitoring, corporate governance reviews, audit practice reviews, and oversight over the education and training of professional accountants in Botswana.
LEGAL MANAGER AND BOARD SECRETARY
Main purpose of the job
⦁ To provide legal advice on all matters related to the registration, inspection, governance, investigation, and discipline of Public Interest Entities (PIEs), certified auditors, audit firms, and Professional Accounting Organisations.
⦁ Participate in discussions of institutional strategy and policy and serve as a resource person on all legal matters affecting the Authority and issues of institutional procedure and governance.
⦁ To provide secretarial services to the Authority Board of Directors.
Key Performance Areas
⦁ Assists in the development and implementation of Organizational strategy and policy.
⦁ Providing legal advice and guidance on legal matters affecting the Authority and its stakeholders.
⦁ Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations for all operations in the Authority.
⦁ Handling all lawsuits of the Authority.
⦁ Ensure observance of good corporate governance practices and principles by the Authority and its stakeholders.
⦁ Providing secretarial services to the Board of Directors and the Authority.
Position Requirements:
⦁ Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws.
⦁ A minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience with progressive responsibility handling complex legal issues related to accounting and auditing or financial regulation.
⦁ Admitted to practice in Botswana under the Legal Practitioners Act.
⦁ Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
⦁ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
⦁ Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.
⦁ Personal and professional integrity.
⦁ Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
⦁ Knowledge of corporate governance and compliance.
