Cost Accountant – MP Mining

Job Purpose

The position will report to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for overseeing and analysing cost expenditures and purchases within the business. Additionally, the incumbent will make recommendations about cost-efficient and financially feasible cost options.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts.
• Analyses and interprets cost trends and recommends appropriate cost control measures to management.
• Develop and analyse useful, timely budget reporting, including forecasting, variances, and trend analyses.
• Ensure accurate maintenance of plant operating ledger and provisions, ensuring cost control is maintained
• Maintain planned positive cash forecast for equipment.
• Organises and coordinates the preparation of monthly payroll.
• Processes salaries, allowances, and benefits to employees.
• Validates all taxes processed (PAYE, VAT, OWHT & Income Tax) and files the monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns.
• Ensures that proper financial controls are adhered to in line with the MINE polices and procedures.
• Carry out annual insurance renewal programme ensuring appropriate policies are in place.
• with adequate levels of cover.
• From time to time notify insurers of any changes to cover or other material facts.
• Pursue payment of insurance claims
• Safety, Health and Environment compliance.

Job Requirements

• Degree in Accounting and Professional part qualification- ACCA/CIMA
• Registered member of BICA
• 5 years relevant work experience
• In-depth knowledge of Botswana tax laws
• Experience in mining industry
• In-depth knowledge of the finance and management accounting functions
• Detailed knowledge of IFRS
• Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Greentree
