CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – Gambling Authority

The Gambling Authority (the Authority) was established by the Government of Botswana through the Gambling Act, of 2012, as a regulator for the gambling industry in Botswana.
The Authority has a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer. The Authority is seeking a highly energetic, dynamic, result-oriented, innovative, service delivery-focused leader to join the organization that will be at the cutting edge of an exhilarating and evolving gaming industry.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide leadership in promoting the socio-economic development of the gambling industry through a sector-focused approach that is aligned with the strategy of the Gambling Authority and government priorities, policies, and strategies. The role focuses on ensuring optimal stakeholder engagement, strategy execution, and organizational performance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Policies and Strategies
Ensure the development of policies and strategies that proactively promote diversification of the gambling industry and achieve the mandate of the Authority.
Drive the execution of the Authority’s corporate strategy in accordance with the Shareholder compact. Report periodically to the Board and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on the performance of the Authority against set objectives
Stakeholder Relationship Capital
Develops and maintains effective strategic relationships with key stakeholders including the public, private, civil society, and development partners.
Develop a wide range of relationships and networks locally, regionally, and internationally.
Work with partner institutions and other key stakeholders in the areas of economic policy, business climate, and associated business services to promote coordinated and complimentary services that meet the needs of local and foreign investors.
Assume ultimate responsibility and accountability for decision-making through liaison with executive management and key stakeholders.

Financial Capital
Ensure strict adherence to prudent financial Management Including annual budget allocations.
Organisational Capital
Provides strategic leadership and ensures the existence of policies to attract and develop talent, drive employee engagement, institute performance, and retain talent in line with the set strategic objectives of the GA.
Safety and Governance Capital
Provides strategic leadership to the Authority’s sustainable gambling and governance capital and reports to the Board.
Service Delivery Capital
Provides strategic leadership to ensure adherence to set service levels and standards of the Authority

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A Master’s degree In Law, Economics, Business Administration, or any related field. Membership of an internationally recognized institute will be an added advantage. A minimum of ten (10) years at the Director or Executive Management level locally, regionally, or internationally.
