Major Duties and Responsibilities
⦁ Supervise all official residence household employees. Manage events and instruct other staff members on arranging luncheons, dinners, and receptions. Responsible for menu planning, cooking for functions at the residence, and for the principal representative and his/her family. In support of these events, purchase all groceries required for the kitchen operation and ensure that receipts are provided for all purchases. Maintain good accounting records.
⦁ Plan, prepare and oversee the execution of representational events by setting tables, preparing official rooms for guests, providing beverages, ice, and glasses to the bartenders, and serving meals. Prepare first class dishes and present them in an elegant manner. Must be flexible and be able to adapt to a quickly changing agenda.
⦁ Responsible for the kitchen operation, such as cleanliness (washing dishes, cleaning stoves, etc.) as well as for the proper maintenance of the kitchen equipment. Notifies the employer of the need for any repairs in their area of operation. Assists with the washing of the dishes, as needed, following functions and ensures that the silver is polished. If needed, must obtain additional help needed for functions.
⦁ Maintains an updated inventory of food, beverages, and glassware in the storage room as well as silver inventory, wine cellar, and linen closets.
⦁ Works to maintain good morale in the residence, and monitors staff time and attendance, annual leave, and sick leave slips.
⦁ Acts as liaison between the Ambassador’s Office, the Protocol Office, and the residence, and maintains the financial records of the Residence. Calls the Embassy’s General Services when a maintenance crew is required to perform maintenance and/or repair work at the Residence.

Education:
High School diploma; culinary certification.
Work Experience:
5 years in a similar position in a restaurant with a recognized culinary reputation and management experience
Language:
Good working knowledge of English (spoken and written); advanced working knowledge of Setswana (spoken and written)
Driver’s license:
Class B driver’s license is required.
Supervised by the principal representative and/or the spouse. Must be able to manage a large household and perform duties independently with little or no supervision.
