We require the services of Botswana citizens to fill the position of Technical Manager, based out of Gaborone. Botswana. The job holder s locations of work will range between operations in Botswana and other countries within which Unitrans operates Duties are carried out in a safe, secure, and economic manner, and in total compliance with legal and operational requirements. TECHNICAL MANAGER
Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful applicant will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management role. The purpose of the job is to provide technical support to operations to ensure the optimum readiness of its mobile equipment across the divisions. This involves the control, monitoring, reporting, and advising on technical performance, cost effective maintenance, and best repair practices to maximise asset life and availability of the Company’s mobile fleet, including yellow equipment used in construction and road maintenance, haulage trucks and light vehicles.
A sound knowledge of best workshop management practices, logistics management, heavy duty mechanical equipment, asset care experience and proficiency in computer systems is essential. Good Customer communication and team leadership skills are a prerequisite.
The successful applicant will be the holder of a tertiary qualification in Transport. Mining. Engineering, or a related field, or have a demonstrable track record and extensive experience in the field, and possess the following competencies:

⦁ Knowledge of the transport industry- who are the suppliers and users
⦁ Experience of managing equipment usage under operational conditions
⦁ Knowledge of optimum technical performance parameters of engines, parts, and tyres
⦁ Competence in using statistical models to generate required data
⦁ Interpersonal communication and the ability to motivate and develop others
⦁ Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
⦁ Strong standards of honesty, integrity, and ethical behaviour
⦁ Good problem solving and planning
⦁ Ability to generate innovative ideas and incorporate creative solutions to problems
⦁ Ability to plan both for the short as well as the medium to long term.
⦁ Team manager with an understanding of employee relations
⦁ Experience of working with clients
The successful candidate will be expected to:
⦁ Travel to estates, farms, depots, and mines in line with contracts that are current, working in close cooperation with respective stakeholders in each area of activity.
⦁ Ensure the optimal readiness and use of mobile equipment across the divisions of the Company, for example, advising on the most cost-efficient combinations of tyres, engines, trailers, cabs, fuel consumption and overall specifications in relation to operational usage, and maintenance and repair projections.
⦁ Assess the future equipment needs in line with contract requirements by forecasting and advising on equipment needs taking into account equipment availability, development and innovation in the market, specifications and features, supplier characteristics, current equipment usage, costs and contract revenue, unit maintenance and repair history, fleet/equipment age and reliability, workshop capacity, technical staff skill levels, procurement timelines, and contract performance requirements
⦁ Assist in forecasting and budget compilation for procurement of parts and equipment for maintenance, repair, and new equipment.
⦁ Providing technical advice on fleet and trailer combinations according to usage and contract requirements.
⦁ Monitor fuel consumption and benchmark across all operations and advise on loss prevention measures
⦁ Adopt and manage preventive and predictive maintenance technologies in workshops.
⦁ Audit vehicle and spares status, ensuring accurate stock availability.
⦁ Advise on disposal of assets.
⦁ Report on equipment status by generating statistics and narrative analyses of data.
⦁ Maintain client relationships.
⦁ Promote safe operations and improvement of driver/ operator behaviour.
