Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Main purpose of the role

The role holder will be accountable for the Bank’s technology and operations strategy. They will oversee day to day business operations including redesign of the operational processes and technical re-architecting of the organisation to reform into a digital financial institution. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to work with industry players to reset our architecture interlock with third parties i.e. payment gateways, regulators and other Banks.

Role deliverables

•Lead the Operations and Technology function by providing strategic direction and focus.
•Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement bank wide operational efficiency.
•Drive and identify new digital opportunities to enhance customer experience and engagement.
•Oversee the implementation of digital technologies and solutions to streamline internal processes and improve operational efficiency and service excellence.
•Create effective measurement tools to assess ROI, gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
•Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to stay ahead of the competition and anticipate market changes.
•Adhere to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Bank and regulatory standards, policies and practices and report/correct control weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational defects.
•Drive effective risk management, governance and compliance with relevant local regulations including data privacy and security, financial crime and Cyber security.
•Own the financial planning cycle for Operations Department and manage all costs in the Unit.
•Create a high challenge, high support performance management culture across the function aligned to Absa’s shared values.
•Lead, inspire and coach a high performing team of professionals, creating succession to key roles and enhancing management
capability.

Qualifications and experience

•Bachelor’s degree/ Master’s degree or professional qualification.
•Essential – Comprehensive understanding of risk management framework in a financial institution or large corporate.
•Essential – 15+ years of experience in the financial services sector, with more than 7 years at executive level in a large enterprise.
•Essential – Extensive experience in contributing to and implementing long-term strategies’ collaborating and promoting integration across value chains, dealing with external stakeholders, driving customer centricity, and leading a senior team.
