EXTRA HEAVY DUTY DRIVER

Role Summary

The Extra Heavy Duty Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of large, heavy, or oversized loads using specialized vehicles and equipment. This position requires advanced driving skills and the ability to navigate challenging terrain and road conditions while adhering to all relevant safety regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

– Operate and maintain a variety of extra heavy-duty vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, lowboys, and heavy-haul trucks, to transport large, heavy, or oversized loads
– Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle and equipment are in proper working condition
– Secure loads using appropriate tie-down methods, chains, and other specialized equipment to ensure safe transport
– Plan and coordinate transportation routes, taking into account factors such as weight restrictions, bridge clearances, and permitting requirements
– Communicate with dispatchers, logistics coordinators, and other team members to ensure timely delivery of loads
– Maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption, and delivery documentation
– Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including hours of service, safety protocols, and hazardous materials handling
– Respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies that may occur during transport and take appropriate actions to mitigate risks
– Assist with loading and unloading of cargo as needed
– Provide exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders
– Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to heavy-haul transportation

Qualifications and Skills

– High school diploma or equivalent
– Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for the specific vehicle(s) operated
– Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating extra heavy-duty vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, lowboys, or heavy-haul trucks
– Demonstrated knowledge of load securement techniques, including the use of chains, straps, and other specialized equipment
– Proficient in reading and interpreting route maps, permits, and transportation regulations
– Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders
– Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in challenging situations
– Commitment to safety and a proven track record of safe driving practices
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for an Extra Heavy Duty Driver position typically falls between $45,000 to $65,000 per year, depending on the location, industry, and the candidate’s level of experience and specialized certifications. Additionally, the position may include benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and opportunities for overtime pay.
