PROJECT HYDROGEOLOGIST

The positions are based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland. PROJECT HYDROGEOLOGIST
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Your role will be to acquire and interpret hydrogeological and gcoscientific data in line with approved plans and standards to meet the MMG-Khoemacau expansion project objectives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:

•Overseeing contractors for the expansion project’s hydrogeological drilling and pump testing programs.
•Compiling the scope of work, including determination of drilling and test pumping designs relating to optimum pumping and dewatering efficiency
•Ensuring all groundwater projects are executed according to the scope of work, project schedule, and costs.
•Recording all aspects of the drilling and test pumping programs and reporting on daily progress.
•Monitoring the drilling and pump testing operations on site including data capture, entry, and quality assuranc&’quality control as per the project specifications.
•Regular data analysis by monitoring the lithology through assessment of drill chips, potential water stnkcs, and yield recording through v-notch measurements to guide the drilling plan and end-of-hole depths
•Supervising the placement of dnll chips into bags, and general preparation for dispatch and signing off all borehole certificates at completion of drilling for submission at the Department of Water Affairs for registration.
•Supervising the correct collection and storage of water samples during drilling and pump testing works as specified on the Scope of work, and completion of the chain of custody forms to allow for dispatch for lab analyse.
•Collecting geological, structural, and geotechnical data from core and drill chips including rock properties and adhering to set standards and quality control and assurance protocols.
•Overseeing piezometer installation projects through lithological and structural interpretation of core drilling data to allow for the selection of piezometer installation holes and sensor placement depths.
•Captunng Information onto log sheets and Inputs Into HydroGeo Analyst (HGA) templates and ensuring that all project databases, models, and documents are securely managed.
•Collating and validating data on HGA templates before transfer into the mine’s HydroGeo-Analyst database
•Liaising with external laboratory service providers to ensure sampling results integrity.
•Undertaking a range of technical project work as assigned by the technical specialist such as piezometer installations, portal, box cut. declines design, stope and pillar designs, and ground support to improve mine designs of the expansion project.
•Supervising and monitoring the installation, operation, and maintenance of boreholes at production and dewatering wellfields.
•Developing, designing, and implementing new monitoring plans for groundwater levels/ pore pressures, water quality, and meteorological data acquisition at the Expansion project sites
•Developing and designing conceptual numerical groundwater models with existing and recent data to ensure future optimal mine dewatering and sustainable water resources management at the expansion project sites.
•Compiling and disseminating technical hydrogeological reports and project updates.
•Ensunng that the allocated projects are completed within budget and on time as per approved project plan.
•Liaising with communities and landowners affected by the water exploration activities as and when necessary, in line with company policy/guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

•Minimum B.Sc. In Geology or related field
•An MSc degree in Hydrogeology and a certificate in Project Management/ Contract Management would be an added advantage
•Minimum of 6 years post qualification experience, three (3) of which should have been in mining/exploration experience.
•Supervisory training
•Numerical groundwater flow meddling (e.g GMS Modflow. MineDW. or FEFLOW Software)
•Hydrochemical modelling
•Piezometer Installation
•Technical proficiency in geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological interpretation.
•Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Kalahari Copper Belt structural geology, and hydrogeological processes.
•Advanced knowledge of percussion drilling techniques
•Knowledge In the use of industry-standard hydrogeologlcal/geotechnlcali geology,’hydrochem software (e.g. Aquifer Test, AquaChem, ACTESOLVE, Leapfrog. ArcGIS. Mapinfo. HydroGeo Analyst database, or similar).
