OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE TECHNOLOGIST – MMG/Khoemacau Copper Mining

OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE TECHNOLOGIST

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

To drive the technical aspects of and coordinate the implementation of the occupational hygiene programme through identification, monitoring and control of occupational hygiene hazards that might lead to ill health.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your key accountabilities include:

• Designing, implementing, and coordinating the following occupational hygiene programs and aligning them to the medical surveillance program
• Designing the risk assessment and monitoring (per-sonal/area strategies for noise, gravimetric sampling, thermal stress etc.
• Designing and implementing the respiratory and noise conservation programs
• Developing and reviewing the occupational hygiene standards and procedures on a continuous basis and submit to the supervisor for approval.
• Measuring and sampling workplace hazards (air quality, noise, heat, illumination, chemicals, biological etc) in accordance with sampling methodologies and strategies.
• Defining the homogenous exposure groups for different areas and linking it to the medical surveillance program.
• Conducting risk assessment and evaluating the hazards as per the occupational hygiene program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Degree in Occupational Hygiene / Environmental Health Sciences or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3 years post qualification with practical experience on occupational hygiene monitoring, surveys risk assessments, etc. in mining or an industrial environment.
• Certified as a technologist and or hygienist level by a professional body will be an added advantage.
