CAPITAL ACCOUNTANT

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

• To oversee and manage the company’s fixed asset activities, including acquisition, verification, depreciation transfers, and disposals.
• The ideal candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting policies and regulations, while collaborating with various project owners to ensure proper asset capitalisation and providing detailed reports for financial decision making.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Your key accountabilities include:

• Maintaining detailed fixed asset records and performing monthly reconciliations of fixed asset sub-ledgers to the general ledger
• Coordinating and conducting periodic physical assets verification and investigating discrepancies and making necessary adjustments to reconcile asset balances.
• Reviewing and processing capital expenditure re-quests, ensuring proper capitalisation according to company policies.
• Preparing monthly and ad hoc Capital Projects reports for management review
• Coordinating capital projects budgeting process and adhering to company and group timelines.
• Monitoring work in progress accounts and coordinating with project managers for timely asset capitalisa-tion and on budget
• Calculating and recording asset retirement and disposal transactions, including gain/loss calculations.
• Maintaining proper documentation and supporting records for all capitalised assets.
• Coordinating process of revaluation of assets and their useful live.
• Supporting annual audit requirements related to fixed assets,
  providing fixed asset documentation and schedules.
• Administrating taxes related to Capital assets acquisitions.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and adhering to company fixed asset policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Professional accounting qualification (Botswana CA or equivalent) is advantageous
• The candidate must have at least 8 years’ working experience, 5 of which should have been in a similar position
• Experience working in a mining industry in Botswana
• Knowledge of and competence in the use of accounting software
• Advanced Excel skills with experience in financial analysis
• Experience of managing assets of high value
• Demonstrate the ability to monitor and control project costs and ensure timely completion
• Professional Membership (Registration with the BICA) is mandatory.
