HEAD OF UNDERWRITING – Emeritus International Reinsurance (Botswana)

POSITION SUMMARY

Emeritus International Reinsurance (Botswana) seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and internationally experienced individual with sound technical knowledge and an aptitude for strategic thinking. This is a senior level position which is integral in assisting the driving of strategy, execution, providing leadership in policy and procedure implementation as well as the training and development of the underwriting team.

Responsibilities

• Pricing and structuring of reinsurance agreements
• Leading the administration of inward and outward reinsurance treaties and facultative placements
• Overseeing all underwriting functions including claims processing and payment authorizations
• Managing the organisation’s retrocession program, including analysis, placement and monitoring of performance
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, internal underwriting policies and rating agency expectations
• Defining and executing the underwriting strategy in alignment with corporate objectives
• Driving portfolio growth, profitability and diversification across markets and classes of business
• Monitoring global trends, emerging risks and regulatory developments to guide the organization’s long term strategy
• Building and maintaining high level relationships with cedents, brokers and retrocessionaires
• Representing the organization in industry forums, conferences and negotiations.
• Championing innovation in underwriting practices and data analytics
• Possessing a well-defined sense of diplomacy including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills
• Be of sound morals and ethic, with ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with stakeholders.

Ability to identify developmental needs of the team and provide coaching, mentoring, and assistance in order to

achieve business goals.

• Expert knowledge in the use of the SICSN’t and Business Objects system

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance and Risk Management, Engineering or any other relevant field.
• A Masters degree in Business Administration or equivalent
• A post graduate qualification in insurance, minimum being Advanced diploma in Insurance (ACI OR AIISA) is compulsory
