Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of Botswana for the below mentioned position tenable at the Department of Internal Audit, within the Ministry of Finance in Gaborone.

CHIEF INTERNAL AUDITOR

SALARY SCALE:

D1 (386,892 – 406,660 per annum)

LEAVE:

30 working days per annum.

BENEFITS:

(i) Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and Employee pays 50%).
(ii) Contributory Pension Scheme (Governments pays 15% and Employee pays 5%).

QUALIFICATION:

Degree in Auditing/Accounting/Computer Science/Information Technology/Risk.

Management or related fields. Relevant Professional qualifications (e.g. CIA, ACCA, CIMA, CISA, CRP, etc.) is a prerequisite. Master’s degree in related fields is added advantage.

Direct entry or progression will be limited to registered members in good standing with Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA)/Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA)/Institute of Risk Management (IRM)/Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

EXPERIENCE:

At least twelve (12) years’ experience in Auditing, two (2) of which should have been served as Principal Internal Auditor at D2 level or its equivalent.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To advise on and monitor utilization of government resources, compliance to statutory and other regulatory requirements, governance, risk management, and internal control processes.

DUTIES:

Advises management on issues of internal controls, risk, and governance.

Attend to customer queries and requests.

Review policies, procedures, and systems for adequacy and effectiveness.

Conduct risk assessments, control risk, and recommend mitigating controls.

Review implementation of audit findings.

Supervise, mentor, and train internal audit staff.

Lead research and compilation of data for new projects and recommending improvements in governance processes.

Implement automation of internal audit processes.

Coordinate follow-ups on outstanding issues from previous audits and audits on recommendations.

Advise on classification of risks indicators and decide whether further action is required.

Supervise development of work plans and audit programs, allocation of resources for conducting audits and the implementation of the annual audit work plan.

Prepare and review audit activity reports.

Review, monitor performance of supervisees and provide mentorship.

Attend operations and management meetings. Facilitate Ministerial Audit Committee meetings.

Perform any other duties as required to meet the exigencies of the service.
