Vacancy 

The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Litigation Counsel to join their legal team and lead complex litigation matters with confidence and expertise.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Company Secretary & Director Legal Services, the primary role of the Senior Litigation Counsel will be to enhance revenue collections for the Agency and to minimise risk of loss from bad debt and litigated accounts by collecting on litigated portfolio. The incumbent will also develop collection strategies, policies and processes to ensure customers settle their indebtedness. The role oversees litigation process in debt recovery matters, providing legal advisory in general debt collection matters.

The Job

The position will, among others, be responsible for the following:

• Overseeing the litigation process.

• Providing expert legal advice in relation to litigation.

• Preparing a strategic plan for the litigation unit.

• Leading the litigation unit in accordance with the Agency goals and objectives.

• Ensuring that the Litigation Unit complies with the Agency policies, relevant legislation and corporate governance best practice.

• Prepares reports for budgets and forecasts anticipated expenditure and revenue of Litigation Unit.

• Liaises with customers, attorneys, deputy sheriffs, tracing agents, relevant Government authorities and courts.

The person

The right candidate will possess the following:

• LLB Degree and admission to practice as an Attorney in the High Court of Botswana

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in civil litigation.

• Thorough knowledge of debt recovery processes.
