The Trustees of the Botswana Unified Revenue Service Employees Pension Fund (“the Fund”) are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to serve on the Fund as an Independent Trustee.

The Botswana Unified Revenue Service Employees Pension Fund is a defined contribution pension fund registered and approved by the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) and the Botswana Unified Revenue Service.

Eligibility of Candidates

The candidate should be an individual who is not a Member of the Fund, an employee of the Botswana Unified Revenue Service or any service provider to the Fund.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

• To work with the Board of Trustees in achieving the objectives of the Fund, actively participate in Trustee meetings and Committee meetings with the intention to add value and bring innovative ideas that can assist the Fund to deliver sustainable long term results to the members of the Fund.

• Act independently and exercise their powers in a manner that is impartial and not influenced by inappropriate considerations.

• Ensure that the Fund is financially sound, responsibly managed and governed in accordance with its Rules and the applicable legislation.

Qualifications and Requirements of Candidates

The candidate should possess:

• A degree, preferably a Master’s degree in Investment Management, Risk Management, Actuarial Science or equivalent qualifications such as Chartered Accountant, Chartered Finance Analyst or Fellow Risk Manager.

• Certificate Qualification in Retirement Funds or Insurance.

• Basic knowledge of the NBFIRA Act, Retirement Funds Act, Trust Act and any other relevant Legislation.

• Ability to understand strategic issues, accept legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of a Trustee.

• Sound knowledge of corporate governance, sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role.

• At least five (5) years working experience in pensions/financial services or risk environment.

• Should be well vested in pension, investments and insurance issues.

• Understanding of matters relating to Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorism Financing and Counter Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF).

• At least five (5) years’ experience of Board membership/Trusteeship.

• The individual must be of good standing to be approved by the Non Bank Financial Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) to be a Trustee.

Board Tenure – The Independent Trustee will hold office for a four (4) year period.
