Botswana Railways is seeking a detail-oriented candidate with a good track record of accomplishment to apply for the position of Payroll Accountant tenable at Botswana Railways Headquarters, Mahalapye. This position reports to Head Financial Accountant.

Main Purpose of the Job:

The position is overtly responsible for the management, preparation, processing and reporting of payroll data as well as to ensure compliance to statutory deductions and administration of employee benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities for this role are inclusive but not limited to the following:

• Responsible and accountable for processing multiple payrolls accurately and on time.

• Supervise the Payroll Team to ensure that payments are paid accurately and on time, ensuring timely outcomes to queries.

• Ensure that third party payments are handled effectively and efficiently.

• Manage third party system provider to ensure the payroll system is updated and operating as expected.

• Check and audit payroll, ensuring appropriate approvals and controls are in place to comply with the organisational processes and labour laws and regulations.

• Provide technical guidance to team on all payroll matters.

• Administer and reconcile all statutory payments/deductions.

• Calculate, pay and reconcile PAYE.

• Review payroll account reconciliations.

• Work closely with Finance Partners to develop detailed variance analysis.

• Oversee compliance with statutory reporting and filing records.

• Prepare relevant monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.

Experience and Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in accounting or related field, Full AAT, CIMA/ BICA/ ACCA Part-Qualified. Five (5+) Years of experience in a payroll function. Experience with large payroll using Sage payroll system.
