Job Purpose
To lead, plan and manage the implementation of the organisation’s Knowledge Management Strategy within the employed structure as well as advice Management on knowledge management and information systems. The role also ensures that the information needs of the organisation are met in a timely, effective and efficient manner across the Corporation.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Support the Chief Operations Officer in developing policies on knowledge management and encourage use of new practices.
- Leadership of a professional knowledge management team.
- Collect data on Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) insights and experiences and establish a knowledge repository.
- Identify and manage BPC Intellectual Capital
- Develop mechanisms to promote innovation in the company and establish these mechanisms to identify and trigger implementation of innovation ideas
- Analyse business data relating to BPC’s operations and identify organisational learning. Ensure this information is made available to all relevant people within BPC.
- Monitor and report on BPC knowledge management effectiveness.
- Manage a process library and process compliance.
- Manage quality accreditation and compliance (e.g. ISO accreditation).
- Manage the BPC archive and records repository, containing current and historic records.
- Set performance targets and measures to ensure that BPC’s knowledge management resources are deployed with optimal efficiency.
- Analyzing the effectiveness of the knowledge management programs by observing its usage and evaluate its impact in terms of the organizational benefits.
- Use relevant metrics and measures to routinely monitor progress against targets, taking appropriate managerial action to ensure that targets are met or exceeded.
- Develop a highly productive, skilled and motivated workforce in the Knowledge Management Department by adopting performance management and best-in-class human resources management procedures.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal BPC’s business unit managers, customers and external suppliers.

- Design and operation of a knowledge management system.
- Ability to develop compelling business cases for investment; specifically, for systems integration in support of BPC overall business strategy.
- Analytical thinker who can recognise trends and opportunities and plan/execute action to exploit business opportunities.
- Ability to work with and lead virtual teams to achieve knowledge management objectives.
- Ability to set stakeholder expectations relating to knowledge management, and to meet expectations.
Qualifications
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science and Records Management or Equivalent.
- A qualification in knowledge management will be an added advantage
Experience
10 year’s professional experience in the field of information management in a business environment, with five (5) years hands-on experience managing organizational knowledge systems, including new and innovative systems and processes.
