Job Description:
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Senior Mine Planning Engineer will play a key part in the strategic direction of the Company to maximise returns from its available ore resources producing assets while advancing pre-development projects that offer potential to sustain and grow the business in the long term.

- Responsible for managing the Mine Planning team in all day to day operations.
- Manage and develop a team of mine planning engineers
- Co-ordinate and communicate effectively with other site technical, operational, support, and managerial teams;
- Translate broadly stated company objectives into detailed plans and schedules;
- Identify long term mining opportunities and develop strategies for their realisation;
- Ensure that the medium-term development plan is compatible with the long-term plan and strategy
- Coordinate the mine design and scheduling process through liaising and consultation with production managers;
- Formulate departmental strategy and measures in line with the company plan;
- Establish and maintain a mine planning system using suitable software, to integrate geological resource models, geotechnical models, survey data, optimised designs, and productivity trends to accurately and timeously plan mining sequences and development phases to meet required production targets;
- Provide accurate designs and plans to ensure the mine can meet current and future production requirements;
- Oversee operations to ensure adherence to short, medium and long-term plans;
- Coordinate and review the design of sub-level open stoping blocks and extraction and backfilling sequences;
- Coordinate and review the design of mine development and services to support extraction;
- Ensure that technical and planning information is timeously made available to support mining production;
- Overview month end reporting processes for UG production statistics; compliance with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001; and coordinate monthly safety inspections and task observations.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- A recognized Bachelor of Engineering/ BSc Degree in Mining;
- Minimum of 10 – 15 years’ experience in a underground mining environment with at least 4 years spent in mine planning and scheduling;
- Experience in various underground mechanized mining methods is essential with at least 5 years’ experience with sub level open stoping methods;
- Experience with backfill, ventilation and underground operational infrastructure requirements;
- Solid experience in mine scheduling and developing a mining budget;
- Strong planning and analytical skills; and
- Advanced (expert) skills in 3D mine design and scheduling software
