In addition, the role builds up capacity and capability regarding equipment reliability across relevant functions in operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Degree in an Engineering discipline – Control & Instrumentation
8 years post EIT programme with experience in heavy engineering and 3 years in a substantive mining industry
ERB registration
Engineering practicing certificate
ERB Registration with valid practicing certificate
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyses the function’s financial needs
• Develops a budget and ensure financial resources are sufficient to meet business needs
• Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters
• Translates the Asset Management programme into concrete medium/long term initiatives
• Develops medium/long term
– Forecasts
– Maintenance plans
– Repair/overhaul plans
• Integrates overall mine and other departmental plans into maintenance plans and C&I systems
• Takes part in the development and planning of new corporate standards and processes in collaboration with the Lead Engineer – C&I
• Manages the C&I discipline cohesiveness by ensuring integration at operational level and ensuring technical coordination across the discipline / sections
• Ensures seamless integration of new equipment or plant in to existing infrastructure
• Provides services and support to production in terms of plant automation and control
• Governs the implementation of corporate standards and specifications on site in area of responsibility
• Implements and improves Asset Management high-value processes in line with the Asset Management programme:
– Defect Elimination
– Work Management
– Condition Monitoring
– Contractor management
• Manages equipment data (maintenance history, audits, etc.) throughout equipment life cycle
• Reviews maintenance contract within the business unit
• Ensures that upgrades and enhancements of equipment/machinery are performed effectively
• Ensures top risks are identified and mitigation plans in place and reviewed periodically
• Builds up capacity and capability by assessing and improving skills and resourcing within the function
• Develops and approves standard operating procedures
• Identifies projects for implementing medium / long term solutions
• Coordinates and controls projects (in liaison with PMOs) by
• Assessing proposed solutions
• Coordinating, monitoring and advising on capital plans and expenditure
• Managing projects risks
• Researches the market for industry best practice principles to keep abreast with latest technological advances
• Tests and evaluates alternatives
• Attends to all administrative functions of the department
• Ensures the availability of performance reports and statistics
• Ensures the risk log and scorecards are up-to-date
• Manages the training and development of all employees within the designated department
• Ensures the training matrix is available and up-to-date
• Ensures compliance with the overall divisional / business unit training plan
• Sets, monitors and reviews performance of subordinates
• Rewards high performance and give feedback on poor performance
• Implements knowledge management principles
• Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
• Oversees the implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives

• Developing and implementing career plans, succession plans and training plans

• Ensures provision with correct development opportunities
• Manages and coordinates the implementation of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility

• Know and understand the risk profile for his / her area of responsibility
• Adhere to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures as well as Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act in area of responsibility
• Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards

• Ensure that housekeeping standards are applied
• Adopt and practice the principles of Zero Harm
• Keep logbooks and update as per site / statutory requirements
• Ensure that contractor’s comply with PPE standards
• Ensure that codes of practices, standard operating procedures, legal and statutory requirements are adhered to in area of responsibility
