The Department of Psychology is looking for two innovative psychologists who can assist in developing psychology as an academic and professional discipline in Botswana.
Duties: The successful candidates will be expected to: (i) teach psychology courses; (ii) supervise research projects; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research; (iv) provide academic leadership through programme development, clinical consultation, and research; (v) act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) raise / solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vii) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; (viii) carry out any other responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.
Requirements
Professor: Candidates should have; (i) a Master’s Degree in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology, and/or Couple and family Psychology from a recognized university or institution with accredited Psychology programmes; (ii) at least 8 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 24 publications, 12 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single author in at least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (v) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) registered or eligible to be registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC); (vii) the following will be added advantages: experience in supervising students’ research projects and/or practicums; an earned Psy.D. or Ph.D. in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology; and/or specialisation in Couple and Family Psychology. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
Associate Professor: Candidates should have (i) a Master’s Degree in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology, and/or Couple and family Psychology from a recognized university or institution with accredited Psychology programmes; (ii) at least 5 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which should be refereed journal articles; lead and/or single authored in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (v) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) registered or eligible to be registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC); (vii) the following will be added advantages: experience in supervising students’ research projects and/or practicums; an earned Psy.D. or Ph.D. in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology; and/or specialisation in Couple and Family Psychology. Senior Lecturer: Candidates should have: (i) a Master’s Degree in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology, and/or Couple and family Psychology from a recognized university or institution with accredited Psychology programmes; (ii) an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (e.g. Bachelor of Psychology, BA or BSc in Psychology combined or single major) from a recognized institution with at least a 2(i) pass / GPA of at least 3.6; (iii) at least 3 years of teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 publications, 4 of which are peer reviewed journal articles; (v) lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (vi) applicants should demonstrate evidence of service; (vii) registered or eligible to be registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC); (viii) the following will be added advantages: experience in supervising students’ research projects and/or practicums; an earned Psy.D. or Ph.D. in Industrial-Organisational Psychology, Community Psychology, Developmental/Child Psychology, Applied/General Psychology; and/or specialisation in Couple and Family Psychology; demonstration of effective academic leadership. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
Remuneration: The University of Botswana offers a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications.
