Mandate of the Department of Financial Intelligence Agency
The Department of Financial Intelligence Agency is responsible for requesting, receiving, analysing and disseminating financial information to relevant authorities with the alm of strengthening efforts of national and international authorities, Investigation and law enforcement agencies in pursuing the global fight against Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism and Proliferation and related crimes. The FIA is also responsible for ensuring compliance by Specified Parties and Accountable Institutions with the provisions of the Act.

SALARY SCALE: | F1 (P598, 176 per annum) |
LEAVE: | 30 working days per annum. |
BENEFITS: i) | Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and Employee pays 50%). |
II) | A contract of 24 to 36 months, with gratuity at the rate of 30% payable upon expiry of the contract |

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To develop, review and coordinate the implementation of money laundering and terrorist financing policies In order to enhance Botswana’s financial system integrity and attract investor confidence.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides strategic leadership to the Financial Intelligence Agency and ensure effective delivery of results as provided for under the Financial Intelligence Act.
- Oversee production of Strategic and Operational Analysis and lead the team to deliver high quality financial intelligence services to local and international stakeholders.
- Produce policy advice regarding the appropriate response to national and international issues in relation to anti-money laundering, counter financing of terrorism and proliferation and other financial crimes.
- Reviews the Financial Intelligence Act, anti-money laundering and terrorist financing policies and procedures.
- Develops standards for the integrity of employees and a system to evaluate the personal, employment and financial history of employees. Ensures high levels of confidentiality are maintained for the Financial Intelligence Agency as provided for In the Act.
- Ensure compliance with the Financial Intelligence Act in the collection and maintenance of data and statistics
- Engages with key stakeholders including Law Enforcement Agencies, Supervisory Authorities and other competent authorities for the purpose of combating money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing and other financial crimes.
- Approves and manages manpower and financial budget for the Agency.
- Coordinates the assessment of risks, vulnerabilities and trends of money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing.
