Pharmacist
Job purpose
The Pharmacist will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical support to the Antimicrobial Resistance (AM) project.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Supports the AMR National Focal Point in the Ministry of Health;
- Support the Public Health Physician in the review and development of the
AMR NAP, monitoring and evaluation tools, clinical guidelines and Essential Drug List for the containment of AMR; - Participates in building sustained partnerships and coordination structures nationally;
- Ensures regular data collection and information sharing by instituting effective communication and coordination among all stakeholders, the members of multisectoral coordinating group (MCG) and their constituencies, sectors and disciplines;
- Supports national activities for establishment of AMR surveillance systems;
- Coordinates reporting on the prevalence of and trends in AMR to the Global
AMR Surveillance System (GLASS). - Coordinates reporting on country self-assessment on AMR;
- Reinforces safety programs, complies with safety procedures, identifies unsafe conditions and reporting;
- Ensures ongoing compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the pharmacy meets or exceeds accreditation standards; and implement “best practices” in all pharmacy activities;
- Review of national supply systems and facilitate good practice of maintaining inventory/stocking levels;
- Supports onboarding and training program for new AMR employees;
- Supports inspecting pharmacy equipment and notify the appropriate leadership of any items in need of repair
- Support the Public Health Physician in the development and/or updating of evidence-based guidelines, including training materials needed for implementation of the project.
- Work with health care providers, DMHT authorities and project team members to identify quality gaps that impede delivery of the project and develop mitigation plans.
- In collaboration with the Public Health Physician, document quality successes, lessons learned and challenges in implementation of project activities and report results to the project and donor, including routine quarterly and annual reports and other reporting requirements as requested.
- Support the Public Health Physician to facilitate implementation and dissemination of the AM guidelines and protocols.
- Performs any other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications and experience
- Master’s degree (BS/BA) in Pharmacy or Doctoral degree (PHARM.D).
- Active Pharmacist license in good standing in Botswana
- At least 10 years’ experience overseeing pharmacy country level operations.
- Advance knowledge of protocols regulating the safe storage of prescription drugs and controlled substances
- Experience in Policy analysis, health financing and high-level government and technical engagements.
- Adaptable, flexible and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, and high growth environments.
