Degree in Auditing, Accounting, Public Finance, Computer Science / Information Technology Masters Degree in auditing is an added advantage. Professional Auditing and/or accounting qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, CIA or CGAP is an added advantage.
Experience:
a) Direct entry to this grade will be limited to candidates who hold a Degree in Auditing /Accounting/Computer Science/lnformation Technology/Public finance and have at least twelve (12) years experience in auditing.
b) Promotion to the level of Chief Internal Auditor (D1) will be limited to officers who have served at least two (2) years as Principal Internal Auditor I.
c) Registration: Candidate should provide proof of registration as a member of The Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To advise the Council Secretary/Town Gerk on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems in mitigating risk of losses and good corporate governance.
DUTIES
1. Provides strategic leadership and direction for the achievement of the Unit’s mandate.
2. Manages and coordinates the functions of the Internal Audit Unit
3. Prepares and monitors the recurrent and capital budget covering the operations, development and maintenance of the Unit.
4. Reviews, appraises and evaluates the Council operational activities to determine conformity with established legislation, regulations, policies and directives governing the conduct of business of the local authority as well as according to established financial audit procedures and practices.
5. Examines asset acquisition and disposal procedures to ascertain that stores control regulations, policies and asset practices are adhered to and that they are effected systematically on authority from the rightful sources and reports any shortcomings to the Council Secretary/Town Gerk.
6. Plans and oversees special audit investigations of suspected irregularities and malpractices reported and advises on means of control and preventative measures to curb recurrence.
7. Ensures periodic examination and verification of on-going Council projects, assets/property and stores materials to ensure proper management, quality assurance, existence and ownership of the same by the Council.
8. Develops implements and evaluates the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance measures through examination Council transactions/activities during the financial year.
