Introduction

The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) is a science and technology institute established by the Government of Botswana. It is a parastatal under the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology.

BITRI was established to undertake research, identify and or develop appropriate technologies in line with national priorities and needs of Botswana.

 

 

Specification

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER OFFICER (BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT)

Main Purpose of the Job:

•Responsible for evaluating, protecting and commercialising the organisation’s technologies.
•Oversee the conduct of exploratory research, market and economic feasibilities, concept testing, and impact assessments to ensure that research and development is driven by market needs and to measure the impact of technologies transferred by BITRI.

•Examine and scan the political, economic, social, technological and environmental landscape of Botswana, for emerging trends and analyse their implications on technology uptake.
•Carry out socio-economic analysis, assessments and feasibilities for inputs to the preparation of research and development project.
•Prepare proposals and develop business case for technologies ready for commercialisation.
•Participate in the design, planning, commissioning and management of outsourced economic research.
•Liaise with, interrogate and analyse social and economic data from relevant primary and secondary information sources.

 

•Participate in the design, planning, commissioning and management of outsourced market research for data collection and processing of information.
•Examine, interpret and analyse data and statistics on market needs for technology.
•Liaise with, interrogate and analyse market data from relevant primary and secondary information sources (as processed by the Statistician)
•Undertake focus groups and brainstorming sessions with key stakeholders.
•Assist with the preparation of funding proposals to various government programs that support commercialisation of new technologies.
•Establishment and formation of spin off and startup companies.
•Interacting with the BITRI’s spin off and start-up companies or other commercial partners to monitor performance and to assist in solving any challenging business issues.

 

•Proactively market, pitch and demonstrate BITRI technologies to industry and the investment community (venture capitalists).
•Researching the market and identifying potential target customers/end users for BITRI technologies.
•Planning and overseeing the marketing of BITRI invented technologies.
•Building links and fruitful relationships with both local and external industry.
Requirements
Education:

•Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Marketing / Management / Finance) or related field from a recognised institution or any other equivalent qualification acceptable to BITRI. Possession of an MBA will be an added advantage.

 

Experience and working knowledge:

•Minimum of 7 years of experience working in a business development /analysis environment.
