hydrogeology code of practice.

Minimum Requirements
– BSc (Hons) relevant degree + MSc degree in Hydrogeology
– Five (5) years post qualification experience two (2) of which should have been in a mining environment
– Supervisory Development training
– Numerical groundwater flow modelling
– Project management training.
– Recognized professional membership e.g. IAH or equivalent

Key activities
1. Budgeting
– Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets and control expenditure within
approved parameters.
2. Technical Assurance & Quality Control
– Implements best practice hydrogeology standards in data analysis and presentation and ensures
compliance best practices hydrogeology standards in data collection.
3. Technical investigations

– Undertakes hydrogeological investigations (including problem-specific issues) aimed at improving the
understanding of hydrogeological dynamics, to improve / optimize infrastructure utilization
4. Groundwater Modelling
– Develops conceptual, analytical and numerical groundwater models to aid in decision making regarding
pore water pressure control in mine pit depressurization, dewatering and sustainable water resource
management
5. Groundwater Infrastructure Development
– Carries out borehole design focusing on critical hydrogeological aspects relating to optimum pumping
and monitoring efficiency
– Supervises and monitors the installation, operation and maintenance of an integrated wellfields and
dewatering / depressurization system, initiates and implements well rehabilitation programs
6. Water Resource Monitoring and Performance

– Processes and analyses data from field measurements to determine dynamic groundwater quantity and
quality changes
– Evaluate water demand and supply (water balance) data to align water resource availability with
projected required growth rates to aid in effective decision making.
– Develops, manages and evaluates systems for monitoring the effectiveness of dewatering /
depressurization to enable
– Develops and implements monitoring plans for groundwater levels/pore water pressures, abstraction,
water quality and meteorological data acquisition.
7. Information Management
– Maintains an up to date functional digital and non-digital databases on groundwater information,
– Prepares and disseminate technical hydrogeological reports

– Initiates, monitors and controls short term sectional projects to ensure attainment of desired results

– Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate
governance principles/requirements in area of responsibility

– Implements the departmental talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competence and
effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localization
/succession, training and development plans.

– Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to
continuously improve and sustain business performance
– Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business
performance

14. Client Relationships
– Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure
achievement of business objectives.
