ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Coordinates environmental and social management activities on the BITP, advises the Special Project Management Unit on all related matters including ensuring compliance with the environmental and social safeguards applicable to the BITP.

 

DUTIES

1) Monitors environmental and social management activities under the BITP.
2) Provides advice on environmental and social management matters to the Ministry.
3) Supervises consultancy serves for environmental and social management audits.
4) Prepares procurement documents for independent/external environmental and social management audits of the BITP.
5) Reviews all environmental and social assessment documents and recommends for approval/disapproval
6) Prepares biannual and social safeguards report in accordance with the financial agreement
7) Prepares budget estimate an monitor expenditure for consultancy services for environmental and social management audits

 

8) Initiates preparation of requests for project finance warrant
9) Review variation orders and contractual claims and recommends to the project manager for approval/ disapproval.
10) Prepares project fee notes/interim payment certificates
11) Conduct consultations with stakeholders and provide them with project related information
12) Attends to customer complaints.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental science or Equivalent and related qualification.

EXPERIENCE: fourteen (14) years’ work experience in Environmental Assessment, and monitoring of environmental and social management plans.

SALARY SCALE: E2 ( BWP 348,348.00 per annum)

LEAVE: 30 Working days per annum

OTHER BENEFITS

I. Optional contributory medical aid scheme with the Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS). The employer pays 50% and employee pays 50%. The employer will also contribute 50% of medical aid cover for individuals who are already members of a different medical aid scheme other than BPOMAS.
II. A contract of 24 to 36 months, with gratuity at the rate of 30% payable upon expiry of contract.
