The mandate of the Botswana Open University (BOU) is to make education accessible to all Batswana, especially out-of-school youth and adults, using open and distance learning (ODL) methods. This means providing flexible learning environments that cater to diverse needs and preferences, allowing individuals to study at their own pace and convenience. The University’s mission is to offer quality education, research and community engagement through ODL solutions.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who wish to invigilate the JCE and BGCSE Final Examinations in October/November 2026. Invigilators are required for ALL BOU Campuses as follows:

Please Note: Indicate in your application letter, the examination centre where you would like to invigilate. Preference will be given to officers in the host institution for security reasons for JCE examinations centres.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Be required to conduct the examination in accordance with instructions contained in the BEC Guidelines for Conduct of Examinations and any other related documents.
  • 2. Prepare for and supervise live examinations to ensure that candidates write examinations under a conducive, free and compliant environment.
  • 3. Prepare examination rooms for the candidates to write the examinations, as per the BEC Conduct on Examinations Guidelines and the respective examination body’s guidelines.
  • 4. Ensure that examinations are written under a conducive environment; clean rooms, no external disturbances, correct spacing and appropriate furniture is used.
  • 5. Ensure that candidates understand and follow all instructions, rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations and abide by them.
  • 6. Ensure that examination papers are secure whilst in their care and that all examinations start and finish at the correct times.
  • 7. Ensure that each candidate is provided with adequate examination materials appropriate for each subject.
  • 8. Ensure that no acts of malpractice or maladministration occur; candidates do not copy, collude or cheat in any way.
  • 9. Always conduct themselves in a professional manner during the examination and handle candidate’s queries promptly.

Requirements

  • 1. JCE Invigilators:
    (i) Qualification: A minimum of a Diploma in Education or any other equivalent field is required.
    (ii) Experience: Previous experience in invigilation of the above mentioned Examinations or a similar examination is an added advantage.
  • 2. BGCSE Invigilators:
    (i) Qualification: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or Degree in Administration or any other equivalent field is required.
    (ii) Experience: Previous experience in invigilation of the above mentioned Examinations or similar examination is an added advantage.
  • 3. Chief Invigilators:
    (i) Qualification: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or administration and Management or any other equivalent field is required.
    (ii) Experience: Previous experience as Chief Invigilator of the above mentioned Examinations or a similar examination is required.
