The Accounts Officer will be responsible for handling a broad range of financial functions including treasury operations, general accounting, debtors’ management and tax compliance (with a focus on Withholding Tax). Key Responsibilities

  • Processing and reconciling bank transactions and preparing daily/weekly recons.
  • Liaising with banks on transactions, queries, and documentation.
  • Performing monthly balance sheet recons: bank, debtors, inventory, fuel.
  • Processing journal entries and maintaining accurate general ledger records.
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Maintaining and updating the debtor’s ledger accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Issuing statements to customers and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Preparing and raising invoices to customers.
  • Reconciling debtors/customer accounts and resolving billing discrepancies.
  • Preparing aged debtors reports and escalating overdue accounts as appropriate.
  • Computing, deducting and remitting Withholding Tax in accordance with applicable tax laws and deadlines.
  • Maintaining accurate WHT schedules and supporting documentation
  • Preparing and filing WHT returns with BURS.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar accounting role, working in a multi-functional finance role
  • Professional Membership (Registration with the BICA) is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Basic understanding of Botswana Tax
  • Basic understanding of IFRS
