A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is usually required, with a PhD preferred for some positions. Industry certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or AWS Certified Data Analytics are highly valued given Botswana's growing demand for practical cybersecurity expertise. Prior teaching experience at tertiary level and professional experience in the field strengthen your application.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a part-time Adjunct Lecturer in this role?

You will deliver lectures, facilitate practical lab sessions, and assess student coursework including assignments and examinations. Part-time lecturers typically teach specific modules rather than full course loads, with schedules arranged per semester. You may also be expected to supervise student projects and contribute to curriculum updates reflecting current industry trends in Botswana's digital economy.

How does the local work culture at Botswana universities affect part-time academic staff?

Botswana's academic environment values punctuality, respect for hierarchy, and collaborative relationships with full-time faculty. Successful adjuncts may transition to full-time lectureship positions as they arise, particularly if they pursue doctoral studies. Part-time positions generally do not include comprehensive benefits packages; medical aid, pension contributions, and paid leave are typically reserved for full-time employees. However, you may receive modest remuneration per teaching hour or per module, with payment schedules varying by institution. Some universities offer professional development support, library access, and networking opportunities that provide indirect career value.

How should I apply for an Adjunct Lecturer position, and what do Botswana employers prioritize in candidates?
