Most employers require a BGCSE or equivalent, plus a valid driver’s licence and a clean criminal record. A certificate in security operations, first aid, or firefighting from a recognised local training provider can strengthen your application.

What are the typical day-to-day duties of an Alarm Response Officer?

You will respond to alarm activations at client premises, conduct site inspections, and report any security breaches or suspicious activity. Duties also include completing incident reports, liaising with control room staff, and sometimes escorting clients or securing premises after hours.

What is the work culture and shift expectation for security response roles in Botswana?

Security response work is shift-based and often includes nights, weekends, and public holidays because alarms must be attended at any time. Employers expect punctuality, sober habits, and the ability to work independently while following strict radio and reporting procedures.

What career growth can I expect after starting as an Alarm Response Officer?

With experience and additional training, you can move into control room operations, site supervision, or armed response team leadership. Some officers also progress into security management or specialised roles such as risk assessment and investigations.

What benefits do security companies in Botswana typically offer for this role?

Benefits vary by employer but commonly include paid annual leave, sick leave, and sometimes a pension or provident fund contribution. Larger companies may also provide uniforms, basic medical aid, or standby allowances, though this is not guaranteed across all employers.

How do I apply for an Alarm Response Officer position and what do employers look for?

You can apply by submitting a CV and certified copies of your qualifications, driver’s licence, and national ID directly to the security company or through advertised vacancies. Employers in Botswana look for reliability, a clean disciplinary record, good communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
