Key Responsibilities
- To teach, supervise and educate undergraduate and postgraduate students in academic discipline and to build the knowledge base of the discipline through research and publication.
- To administer teaching and research activities within the discipline of Plant Biotechnology.
- To give academic leadership in the University, the School, and the Department and develop the next generation of academics.
- To play a leading role in improving the teaching and research infrastructure of the Department, School, and University.
- To establish a national reputation in the chosen discipline.
- To be active in professional service related to the chosen discipline.
Requirements
- PhD in Plant Biotechnology or in a related area with a strong focus on Plant Genetics and Metabolic Engineering from a recognized Institution.
- A minimum of ten (6) years post-doctoral experience in teaching and research in Plant Biotechnology.
- Research and teaching experience in undergraduate/postgraduate Plant Biotechnology, preferably with a speciality in Plant Genetics and Metabolic Engineering and evidence of building and leading a research team in this field of study.
- A record of recent and continuing publications of at least sixteen (16) original scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals that are indexed in Scopus.
- Evidence of attracting research grants and managing research projects.
- Evidence of experience of successful supervision of postgraduate students.
- Evidence of accreditation as assessor and moderator from a recognized Qualification Authority (e.g. BQA).
- Evidence of engagement in university, professional, and community services.
- Evidence of involvement in academic leadership and management.
- Ability to prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g.,for funding and accreditation purposes.
- Computer proficiency.
- Good knowledge of the academic discipline environment.
- Involvement in professional activities where applicable.
