Key Responsibilities

  • To teach, supervise and educate undergraduate and postgraduate students in academic discipline and to build the knowledge base of the discipline through research and publication.

Requirements

  • PhD in Plant Biotechnology or in a related area with a strong focus on Plant Genetics and Metabolic Engineering from a recognized Institution.
  • A minimum of ten (6) years post-doctoral experience in teaching and research in Plant Biotechnology.
  • Research and teaching experience in undergraduate/postgraduate Plant Biotechnology, preferably with a speciality in Plant Genetics and Metabolic Engineering and evidence of building and leading a research team in this field of study.
  • A record of recent and continuing publications of at least sixteen (16) original scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals that are indexed in Scopus.
  • Evidence of attracting research grants and managing research projects.
  • Evidence of experience of successful supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Evidence of accreditation as assessor and moderator from a recognized Qualification Authority (e.g. BQA).
  • Evidence of engagement in university, professional, and community services.
  • Evidence of involvement in academic leadership and management.
  • Ability to prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g.,for funding and accreditation purposes.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good knowledge of the academic discipline environment.
  • Involvement in professional activities where applicable.
  • Knowledge of Research Methodology.
  • Understanding of Higher Education environment.
  • Ability to be a team player and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to facilitate student learning.
  • Ability to coach and mentor students and staff.
