UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
Co-ordinate, controls, supervises all operation of shaft conveyances, skips, material, equipment, associated systems and shaft being closed or balanced underground. Maintains the proper observation of the requirements and regulations in any order what-so-ever related to the movement of safety and health. This candidate will report to the Shaft Sinking Shift Foreman.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
- BGCSE and/or equivalent qualification with valid Government or Onsetter’s certificate.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Banksman / Onsetter.
- Knowledge and experience in signalling communication is essential (from bank to shaft bottom).
