Responsible for managing our industrial steam boilers, pressure vessels, lifting chain hoists and plant maintenance. He/she will be overseeing safe operations, troubleshooting mechanical issues, handle workshop fabrication (like welding and pipefitting), offering technical support and Installation, planning, scheduling execution and supervision of the preventative maintenance of the whole Textile plant and ensure compliance with safety rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains two coal-fired steam boilers.
  • Performs boiler tube repairs, descaling, servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains and services compressors and associated boiler equipment.
  • Ensures boilers remain compliant with annual regulatory inspections and certification requirements.
  • Safeguards uninterrupted production by ensuring reliable and safe boiler operations.
  • Leads the implementation and operation of the borehole water project.
  • Oversees the water softener plant to treat borehole water for production use.
  • Manages initiatives that reduce water costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of the effluent treatment plant.
  • Manages wastewater treatment using physical, chemical, biological, and reverse osmosis processes.
  • Ensures treated water meets environmental standards for safe discharge and reuse.
  • Oversees the operation of advanced wastewater treatment equipment, including the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system and expanded water storage infrastructure.
  • Supports production expansion while reducing operational costs through efficient water treatment and recycling.
  • Provides specialized technical expertise in critical utility systems.
  • Leads cost-saving and sustainability initiatives related to water and utility management.
  • Supports business continuity by ensuring the reliable operation of essential production infrastructure.
  • Helps protect the company’s operations and the employment of approximately 500 employees by maintaining critical utility systems essential to production.

Requirements

  • Education: A vocational certification, NCC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with good knowledge of planned maintenance and Spares inventory management.
  • Member of any recognized Engineering board e.g. B.I.E or E.R.B
  • Driving license B or EC
  • Extensive experience in Boilers, Compressors, gear boxes, pumps, and water treatment plant by reverse Osmosis
  • Maintenance and regulatory inspection Laws of Botswana e.g. Factory Act Regulations 1974, and should have at least 10 years working experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to machine on lathe & milling machine
  • Traceable history of working at senior level e.g. Foreman/Supervisor
  • Knowledge of Pneumatics, Hydraulics and Electro pneumatics will be an added advantage
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift heavy objects, working on heights and work in hot or confined spaces.
