Key Responsibilities
- (a) Campsite Administration: (i) Provide proper management, safety and security of the campsite equipment and facilities (ii) Conduct day-to-day administrative operations of the campsite such as clearing bushes, shrubs and grass to ensure the safety of the research facilities, site and users; (iii) Maintain detailed logs of daily activities, incidents, and breeches; (iv). Manage campsite inventory/supplies; (v) Install and ensure the security of research equipment at campsite; (vi) Monitor movement of research equipment and associated implements kept at campsites; vii) Participate in conservation efforts and ensure minimal environmental impact at the campsites; (viii) Respond to emergencies and coordinate with authorities if needed and assist researchers with fieldwork logistics, including data collection
- b) Campsite Facilities : (i) Ensure proper maintenance of the camp infrastructure including tents, solar panels, research installations etc.; (ii) Perform routine inspections and schedule maintenance and repair of the equipment and camp facilities, including campsite communication systems
- c) Risk Compliance: (i) Participate in the identification and mitigation of security risks; (ii) Ensure compliance with camp regulations protocol and legislation
- d) Customer Service : (i) Respond to customer/stakeholder queries in the area of expertise; (ii) Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders as needed to effectively deliver duties as required
- e) Professional Development : (i) Ensure adherence to performance targets as reflected in the performance contract and prepare performance review and appraisals; (ii) Identify learning opportunities and follow up on own training and development in line with departmental needs (iii) Carry out any other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- at least a BGCSE/IGCSE certificate or equivalent
- previous work experience in remote camps, hospitality, outdoor areas (e.g. conservation sites, military, disaster response)
- experience in driving a 4×4 off-road vehicle and the ability to drive a boat are added advantages. The possession of a valid Class B driver’s license as minimum, certificate in Health and Safety, first Aid/ CPR or related area is preferred
- Good organizational skills and problem solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- The possession of the following skills is preferred, numerical skills and the ability to communicate well, basic maintenance and cleaning abilities as well as the physical stamina to perform outdoor work.
