Reporting to: Head Chef

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a creative and dedicated Canteen Chef to manage all culinary operations at our unique camp site/game lodge. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating delicious, hearty meals for our guests, balancing traditional favourites with innovative dishes. This role requires flexibility, resourcefulness, and a strong sense of community, as you will be looking after our staff in a dynamic, remote environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the staff canteen kitchen and food preparation.
• Prepares different dishes for the Staff.
• Checks on daily orders and assists in staff menu planning.
• Reports directly to the Head Chef
• Checks on the quality of all food items/ingredients before preparation.
• Actively supports hygiene programs.
• Ensures maintenance of campsite and lodge/ hygiene standards.
• Maintains all recipes.
• Monitor temperature and refilling of food at buffet in the staff canteen.
• Any other duties, which may be assigned to you from time to time as directed by your Supervisor or Manager.
• Maintain good communication and working relationships with all campsite and lodge areas; Act in accordance with fire, health and safety regulations and follow the correct procedures when required.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 2 years in a similar position in a high volume, hotel or food and beverage establishment. Experience in cooking large quantities of food.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

To become a canteen chef, you typically need to have a minimum of BGCSE/Cambridge and/or certificate in culinary arts. Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR certification would be an added advantage.
