Main purpose of the job: To lead and assume responsibility of managing a team of legal practitioners and paralegals in a Legal Aid Botswana service centre. To manage the operations of LAB service centre (including legal aid provision, staff, finances and administrative support) to ensure a high and consistent standard of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Plans, directs and coordinates activities of the Legal Aid Botswana service centre.
- Undertakes and oversees all litigation on behalf of legal aid clients, including adherence to case management processes and preparation of heads of arguments, and noting of all judgments of court.
- Assesses, negotiates and recommends out of court settlements and use of dispute resolution mechanisms in place.
- Monitors progress of cases and implements corrective action plans.
- Plans for and lodges or responds to appeal matters.
- Renders legal advice on complex matters.
- Conducts in-house training and facilitates orientation programmes.
- Monitors the performance of all staff, and provides guidance and mentoring to all staff.
- Prepares manpower and budget estimates for LAB service centre.
- Attends various LAB meetings to advice on legal matters.
- Ensures implementation of sound processes, systems and procedures that deliver efficient services to meet member and stakeholder expectations.
- Maintains communication between the service centre and senior management; prepares regular reports regarding operations and productivity.
- Formulates recommendations and provides feedback to management regarding operational policies and procedures.
- Maintains control over audit procedures to ensure compliance with controls; reports any weaknesses identified.
- Ensures that the Branch is in compliance with regulations set forth by the constitution of Botswana and other regulatory agencies.
- Evaluates staff’s work performance by helping to prepare and deliver annual reviews and performing coaching sessions.
- Monitors quality of service delivered to clients.
- Represents and promotes the service centre within the local and business community.
- Undertakes any other lawful tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in law or related field.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in the field of law and should have been admitted to practice in the courts of Botswana.
