GIZ Botswana and SADC implement development cooperation programmes on behalf of the German Federal Government in Botswana and across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The GIZ Botswana and SADC office coordinates a diverse regional and national portfolio focusing on economic integration and trade, climate resilience and environmental governance, natural resource and transboundary water management, energy sustainability, gender equality, and institutional strengthening. These interventions contribute to SADC’s regional integration agenda and to Botswana’s national development priorities, while aligning with Germany’s and European development cooperation objectives.

Effective communication and visibility are essential to demonstrating results, showcasing impact, ensuring compliance with donor and corporate communication requirements, and positioning German development cooperation as a reliable and strategic partner at national, regional, and international levels.

Within this context, the Communications Unit supports the Country Office and programmes in developing and delivering strategic, high-quality, and compliant communication and visibility measures, in line with GIZ corporate communication standards, donor requirements and visibility guidelines (including those of Germany and the European Union), and partner frameworks, particularly those of SADC.

The Communications Unit also contributes to strengthening the visibility of development results, promoting strategic stakeholder engagement, and communicating the relevance of regional cooperation initiatives to diverse audiences across Southern Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Country Office and programmes in updating, and managing communication products, including factsheets, portfolio overviews, presentations, and basic visibility materials.
  • Assist in ensuring that communication products comply with GIZ corporate design and donor visibility requirements.
  • Support the coordination of communication and visibility requirements with programmes and relevant stakeholders. Assist in tracking and documenting relevant communication guidelines and strategic updates.
  • Support the dissemination of information on relevant changes in communication guidelines, policies, and strategies across the country portfolio.
  • Maintain and update communication-related information and content on internal communication platforms. Support the management of GIZ Botswana/SADC social media accounts (Facebook and LinkedIn).
  • Support collecting content and assisting in drafting social media posts and key communication messages.
  • Assist in managing the GIZ Botswana/SADC communication platforms.
  • Support in compiling and developing publications for events, for example the upcoming event of 60th celebration of German-Botswana cooperation.
  • Assist in monitoring communication activities and compiling basic communication statistics and reports.
