CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE LESOTHO TO BOTSWANA WATER TRANSFER CONVEYANCE SYSTEM TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY STUDY – Orange-Senqu River Commission (Orasecom) 1290 views

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct technical feasibility study for a 688 km piped conveyance system from Lesotho to Botswana.
• Perform geotechnical investigations regarding founding conditions in dolomite areas (Lichtenberg to Botswana border) and undermined areas in Free State Goldfields.
• Address risk of subsidence and seismicity associated with underground mining.
• Analyze pumping requirements for elevations varying from 1850 to 1125 masl using steel pipes (2200 mm to 1100 mm).
• Design for high lift pump stations, booster pump stations, and break-pressure tanks to manage dynamic head requirements.
• Evaluate hydropower potential at Chainage 660,7 km (3.2 MW) and Chainage 688.5 km (5.9 MW).
• Assess pumped storage potential involving an upper storage dam at 2000 m elevation.
• Design special considerations for major road, rail, and watercourse crossings.
• Plan nine off-takes for town augmentation along the conveyance route.

Requirements

• Eligible consulting firm status.
• Brochures and descriptions of similar assignments.
• Proven experience under similar conditions.
• Availability of qualified staff.
• Selection will be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Rules of Procedures for the Use of Consultants” (Quality Cost Based Selection).
