To provide leadership and strategic direction in the diamond downstream activities (diamond cutting and polishing, jewellery manufacturing and diamond trading as well as create enabling environment for Botswana to become a sustainable and competitive world class diamond centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development, review, and implementation of the Diamond Beneficiation Strategy in alignment with the Minerals Policy and Government national development priorities.
  • Develops and implement strategies for diamond marketing, promotion, and investment attraction to enhance Botswana’s position as a global diamond centre.
  • Provides strategic guidance to enhance the competitiveness, resilience, and long-term sustainability of Botswana’s downstream diamond industry.
  • Oversees market intelligence pertaining to the global and local diamond industry to inform strategic decision-making and policy formulation.
  • Manages and oversees the issuance, administration, and monitoring of licenses, permits, and authorizations relating to diamond processing, trading, and export activities within and outside Botswana.
  • Coordinates systems and processes to ensure adherence to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and other supervisory and regulatory requirements governing diamond trade.
  • Evaluates the competitiveness, profitability, and sustainability of Botswana’s downstream diamond industry, including benchmarking against global diamond centres and reviewing downstream companies’ business plans, financial statements, and performance data.
  • Manages and responds to stakeholder, investor, and customer enquiries and queries related to the diamond industry, including investment opportunities, regulatory requirements, and operational processes.
  • Develops strategies for optimal and sustainable value chain development in the Diamond Industry.
  • Facilitates the establishment and operationalisation of Diamond businesses, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to enhance investor convenience and improve the ease of doing business within the diamond sector.
  • Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining/Metallurgy/ Chemical/Geology or Mineral Economics or Marketing or related fields. Master’s Degree qualifications in Business Administration/ Mineral Economics/Marketing/Strategic Management will be an added advantage.
  • At least Eighteen (18) years’ experience in the mines and minerals industry or related field, two (2) years of which should have been served at E1 salary scale or equivalent in the Private Sector or Parastatal.

Salary

F2 (P607,440) per annum
