Westlife Insurance Data Protection Officer Position:

POSITION: DATA PROTECTION OFFICER

Westlife Insurance Botswana (Pty) Ltd “Westlife” is a long-term insurance company that operates under the regulation of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA). Established in July 2017 in Botswana, we provide long-term insurance through a network of carefully selected Insurance Brokers and strategic Partners.

Applications are invited from qualified Botswana citizens for the position of Data Protection Officer tenable at Gaborone.

1.PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To ensure that the company complies with the applicable data protection laws and regulations, and manage data protection strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard customer and employee data; while also supporting the broader corporate compliance framework by advising on regulatory obligations, monitoring adherence to internal controls, and fostering a culture of compliance and accountability across the organisation.

1. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

•Develop and implement data protection policies and processes aligned with industry regulations.
•Design and implement a compliance program to ensure that company operations meet legal, regulatory, and ethical standards across all business lines
•Advise on compliance with industry – specific regulations including financial services, health and safety, insurance practices, and funeral related laws.
•Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to ensure data is properly managed and protected.
•Act as the main point of contact for data protection enquiries, complaints, and data breaches.
•Provide guidance and training to employees on data protection responsibilities and best practices.
•Ensure that data security measures are in place.
•Manage data subject rights requests and ensure timely responses.
•Liaise with regulators to address data protection concerns.
•Embeds relevant privacy clauses in contracts and agreements in conjunction with the legal team
•Assesses risks inherent in the processing of personal data within the business

3.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

•Bachelor’s degree in law compliance, risk, or any related field.
•Certification in Data Protection will be an added advantage
•At least two (3/ 5) years’ work experience.
•Experience in Compliance, risk, or data protection role.
•Sound knowledge of insurance, legal, data protection and financial intelligence legislation
