To oversee the process of applications for mining and minerals permits, and licenses as well as ensuring that exploitation of the mineral resources is done in the most efficient and beneficial manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the assessment of Minerals Permits/ Mining License/Semi Precious Stones Dealers License/ Retention License/ Development License/ Permit to Import Minerals/Permit for possession of unwrought Precious Metal applications.
  • Oversees issuance of authorizations of minerals samples permits and Tender Clearance certificates.
  • Oversees inspections and audit of minerals samples for compliance to mining legislations and approved mining programmes.
  • Makes follow up on inspections and audit recommendations/queries.
  • Oversees review of rehabilitation/reclamation programmes for Retention licence, Development licence, Mining licence and Mineral Permits.
  • Interprets and analyses mining operations data and advice accordingly.
  • Provides technical advice on mining related matters.
  • Contributes to reviews of Acts, Policies and Regulations on mining and minerals operations.
  • Prepares financial budget estimates for the Division.
  • Facilitates training and development programmes for subordinate staff.
  • Guides subordinate staff on specific tasks and assignments.
  • Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Salary Scale: E2 (P449 256 – P464 236 per annum)
  • Leave: 30 working days per annum.
  • Benefits: Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government Contributes 50% and employee 50%)
  • Duration: 2 – 3 years’ contract
  • Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering in Mining/ Metallurgy/ Chemical / Mineral Processing from a recognized and accredited institution. A Master’s Degree in any of the above disciplines will be an added advantage.
  • Registration: Candidates should be in good standing on registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) /Possess a practicing certificate with the ERB.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years post qualification experience in the mining industry, two (2) years of which should have been at D1 level or equivalent in the Private Sector or Parastatal.
