Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees timely processing of Grant titles (permits, licences, authorisations and approvals for explosives, machinery and environmental.
  • Coordinates inspections of mining operations and evaluates issued instructions.
  • Evaluates audit reports for effectiveness of health and safety systems implemented by mining companies.
  • Attends to appeals on inspections/audits instructions.
  • Reviews effectiveness of Health and Safety programmes to promote the health and safety of persons at mines and any person affected by the mining and blasting activities.
  • Provides direction and raise awareness on safe work programmes, hazard identification and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Provides guidance on the implementation of Safety, Health and Welfare to ensure that mining programmes are conducted in a safe manner.
  • Provides guidance on the implementation of environmental regulations to ensure that mining activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Interprets reports generated from data collected on mining and explosives activities and ensure strategic alignment.
  • Prepares financial budget estimates for the Division.
  • Facilitates training and development programmes for subordinate staff.
  • Guides subordinate staff on specific tasks and assignments.
  • Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Salary Scale: E2 (P449,256-P464,236per annum)
  • Leave: 30 working days per annum.
  • Benefits: Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government Contributes 50% and employee 50%)
  • Duration: 2 – 3 years’ contract
  • Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering in Mining/Environmental/ Electrical/Mechanical from a recognized and accredited institution. A Master’s Degree in any of the above disciplines will be an added advantage.
  • Registration: Candidates should be in good standing on registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) / Possess a practicing certificate with the ERB.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years post qualification experience in the mining industry, two (2) years of which should have been at D1 level or equivalent in the Private Sector or Parastatal.
