The Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), was established through Act of Parliament no.12 of 2015, which transformed the Botswana College of Agriculture into a University. The institution seeks to become a vibrant world-class University that will enable the transformation of the agricultural and natural resources sectors by producing competitive high caliber graduates.

BUAN is seeking a visionary and transformational Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration; to shape the financial and administrative future of the Institution, drive excellence across operations, governance and strategic growth by ensuring the highest standards of accountability and performance, on a fixed-term contract of five (5) years tenable at their main campus in Sebele,Gaborone.

JOB PURPOSE
As a member of the Executive leadership team and reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the University’s financial, human resource and administrative functions. This includes the formulation and implementation of policies, plans and systems that ensure effective management of resources, sound governance, and operational efficiency. The role also entails guiding the overall direction of financial planning, human resources and administrative services to support the University’s mission, vision and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership in financial and administrative policy development and implementation.
  • Overseeing financial management (budgeting, accounting, procurement, resource allocation) with full compliance.
  • Advising the Vice Chancellor and University Council on financial and administrative matters.
  • Leading the University’s financial strategy to ensure sustainability and alignment with its mission.
  • Supervising administrative divisions (HR, estates, IT, and support services).
  • Driving operational excellence through performance management, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring governance, transparency, and compliance in all operations.
  • Fostering accountability and service delivery to support academic and research excellence.
  • Representing the University in financial and administrative engagements with external stakeholders.
  • Leading and mentoring teams, promoting ethical leadership and professional growth.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Accounting / Finance / Human Resource or related field, plus, a recognised professional qualification and membership of an internationally recognised professional institution, together with BICA registration.
  • At least five (5) years post qualification experience at Executive Management level.
  • Extensive knowledge of University systems and understanding of the tertiary education.
  • Experiential knowledge of corporate governance, finance and administration.
