Organization Name: SPEDU. Job Title: DIRECTOR: MANUFACTURING & INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT – SPEDU REGION. Role Purpose: This position is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in the development, expansion, and competitiveness of agribusiness, manufacturing, and industrial value chains within the region. The role focuses on accelerating industrialisation, strengthening local value addition, enhancing productivity through industry automation and innovation, coordinating complex stakeholder ecosystems, and ensuring operational excellence across supported enterprises and industrial clusters.
Key Responsibilities
- a. Develop and implement a Manufacturing & Industry Development Strategy aligned to national industrial policy, trade policy, and economic transformation frameworks;
- b. Identify priority industrial sub-sectors and value chains (agribusiness processing, light and heavy manufacturing, minerals beneficiation, green manufacturing, automation-enabled industries);
- c. Lead development of agribusiness value chains from primary production to processing, packaging, logistics, and market access;
- d. Support establishment and expansion of agro-processing facilities, cold-chain infrastructure, storage, and aggregation platforms;
- e. Promote standards compliance, food safety, traceability, and certifications to enable domestic and export market access;
- f. Facilitate access to industrial infrastructure (land, factories, utilities, shared services) in collaboration with relevant agencies;
- g. Promote adoption of industry automation, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies;
- h. Facilitate public-private dialogue to resolve regulatory, operational, and market barriers;
- i. Coordinate logistics solutions including warehousing, transport, rail, border processes, and export corridors.
Requirements
- Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Industrial Economics, Agribusiness, Operations Management, or any other related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years post qualification experience in manufacturing, agribusiness development, industry policy, or enterprise support, 3 of which must have been at senior management level.
- Competence in Industry value-chain analysis, automation, operation optimisation, stakeholder coordination, supply-chain logistics.
- ERB registration is required for those with engineering credentials.
- Demonstrated good strategic thinking, execution focus, collaboration, problem solving, resilience, and high integrity.
