**DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT**
**(MAJOR GIFTS FOCUS)**
Location: Fully Remote (U.S.-based preferred)
Reports to: Great Plains Foundation Co-Founders and Foundation Director
Organization: The Great Plains Conservation Foundation
The Director of Development will serve as GPF’s lead frontline fundraiser and a key advisor on development strategy. This individual will manage a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, secure significant contributions, and help grow a sustainable, diversified philanthropic program. They will also play a collaborative leadership role, working closely with the Director, Founders, and Board Members on organization-wide fundraising initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Major & Principal Gifts – Lead efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts of $10,000+ from individual donors.
- Fundraising Strategy & Organizational Leadership
- Partnership Development & Donor Relations
- Collaboration, Events & Special Initiatives
Requirements
- We welcome candidates who bring strong experience and the readiness to step into a leadership role.
- 5+ years in fundraising, with direct experience in major gifts (five- and six-figure solicitations).
- Demonstrated success in building donor pipelines and managing long-term relationships.
- Experience in small or lean organizations is highly valued; comfort operating independently with limited administrative infrastructure.
- Strength in designing and executing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Professionalism, discretion, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-motivated and comfortable in a fully remote work environment.
- Willingness to work across time zones, including coordination with colleagues in Africa.
- Knowledge of and passion for African conservation preferred; conservation fundraising experience is a plus.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
