1. ESTIMATOR

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

The project Estimator develops accurate cost estimates for all phases of a mining project—including feasibility, construction, infrastructure, and operations—by analysing technical inputs, market rates, resource requirements, and project scope. The Estimator supports financial planning, risk analysis, budget setting, and bid evaluations, ensuring project decisions are commercially sound and strategically aligned.

CORE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:

• Supporting the alignment of estimates with project budgets and assisting in cost reconciliation during revisions and scope changes.
• Working closely with technical teams to validate design assumptions, construction methodologies, and resource requirements.
• Maintaining thorough records of cost models, assumptions, basis of estimate documents, and updating logs for audit and review.
• Identifying estimating process improvements and utilising appropriate software tools, e.g. Candy, Excel, CostX and SAP, to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Mining Engineering/ Quantity Surveying/
• Project Controls/Construction Management/ Finance or Cost Engineering (with mining project exposure

Certifications (Preferred or Advantageous)

• Registered with a professional body, e.g. PMI, AIQS and ECSA.
• Training or certification in estimating software tools such as CostX, Candy, or SAP.
• SHEC-related awareness training, particularly if working on active mine sites.

Minimum Experience and Knowledge:

• At least 5–7 years’ experience in estimating roles on mining or heavy industrial projects.
• Exposure to various project phases.
